There is no greater dichotomy right now than our current political climate. We are either white or people of color, male or female, blue or red. In times of psychological regression, we discover an inability to hold the nonduality of our humanity in Love. (side note: purple is the chakra color of the crown)
For folks who are hospitalized for believing they’re the Second Coming of Christ, or Maitreya, or on an archetypal messianic mission to save the world—or even the cosmos—we struggle with the integration of daily living and the universal reality of undivided Love.
Comprehending psychosis as a combination of intergenerational trauma, neurodiversity, and unconscious revelations of spiritual insight allows for a peaceful acceptance of mental health treatment and spiritual progress.
I found myself asking a local reverend, “How would Jesus bag groceries?” This can be like a mantra for anyone working to integrate ancestral and spiritual lineages in a neurodivergent body.
Neurodiversity is the bold assertion that neurological diversity is a biological imperative of human evolution. Tribes survived through diversity. Darwin said, “It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent; it is the one most adaptable to change.” Neurological differences are made manifest in the forgotten, shamanic medicine of all indigenous peoples throughout space and time.
Now, having a shamanic neurological difference does not get us off the hook of healing the matter of the day. This is why mental health care rooted in trauma-informed care is essential. We can be shamans and have “mental illness.” These need not be polarized in our experiences.
May we all know the power of healing, in Body, Mind, and Spirit.
